"Our first date was really very simple. We shared a bottle of wine and shawarma (food from his culture) on the rooftop of our hotel. We spent the evening talking, laughing and in disbelief that I was actually there in Nigeria!"

For Lucky, meeting Tanisha at the airport was a moment he'll never forget. "COVID was active and I had to wait outside. When I saw Tanisha walking out of the airport with her luggage, I ran to embrace her and I knew then, she would be my wife."

Their first impressions exceeded all expectations. "People don't tend to look like their photos online but Lucky far exceeded his online photos!" Tanisha laughs. "I thought I had died and gone to heaven!" Lucky was equally smitten: "She was a beautiful angel! Eyes so charming, skin like glass and a smile that turned the heat up in Nigeria about 10 more degrees!"

Love Beyond Borders

The eight-day visit to Nigeria was transformative for both. "I was 110% sure" there would be more dates, Tanisha recalls, while Lucky was already thinking bigger: "I wanted her to be my wife!!"

What surprised Tanisha most wasn't just Lucky's kindness, but the cultural richness he brought to her life. "My husband's culture and morals were different than the American men I had dated and I knew I wanted to have him in my life forever."

Lucky knew their relationship was special the moment Tanisha committed to that first trip. "I was in Nigeria and I knew it was special when she finally agreed to fly 4,000 plus miles to Nigeria to spend 8 days with me!"

A Proposal and a New Chapter

True to Nigerian tradition, Lucky didn't waste time once he knew Tanisha was "the one." "Nigerian men don't do a lot of dating around," Tanisha explains. "They quickly ask you to be their wife unless there are red flags. So he actually asked me over the phone to marry him and I said yes. We both were looking for the same thing, marriage and we more than vibed!"

Four years later, their love story continues to inspire others. Lucky joined the US Army upon arriving in America, and together they've built a massive following on social media, chronicling their journey as "Luckyandtanisha" on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. "It has changed my life tremendously! I'm so happy!!" Tanisha beams. "Lucky has made me feel alive again and has shown me for the first time in my life that true love does exist!"
