New Reflections, New Beginnings

Posted by James, 29 Dec

We have come to the end of the year. And for me, I usually take this time to reflect on my life. Did I achieve what I had hoped to achieve when the year began? These reflections don’t always put a smile on my face. However, instead of beating myself down, I usually tell myself that there is still a new year. There is usually hope that I can turn things around the following year.

The thing about reflecting is that you can look at why you did not achieve what you intended to. Was it because your goals were unrealistic. Was it because of what you did or was it because of something that was out of your control. Whatever it was, you can use this time to make realistic New Year’s resolutions for the coming year.

Start small… Step by Step…

One thing I like to tell people is to take things slow. Yes! You want to build a house next year. So you decide to save for it until you have enough money to erect the whole thing. If you ask me, I think that is a wrong approach. Instead, why not use the money you have to start what you can. Believe me, the moment you begin and see every little progress you are making, the more excited you will be to squeeze every coin you can to put into that house.

Use this in everything you have planned for this year and you will be surprised at how fast you will reach your goal.

Don’t shock your body into soberness

If you want to quit smoking or drinking, then ease into soberness. Do not shock your body into it. Just keep reducing until you reach a point when you aren’t craving the drinks or smokes. It’s more realistic and more achievable.

Go easy on yourself

Do not compare yourself to your friends and family. Trust me, comparisons are a waste of time. Only be accountable to yourself. Learn to look back, appreciate yourself and past yourself on the back. Don’t let the past drag you down. Instead, look forward to the new beginnings coming your way because if you focus too much on the past, the future will pass you by.

So hold your head high and prepare to experience the new beginnings coming your way.

Happy 2019!
